Earth Day

Event On: Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 11am to 5pm CDT
Event Details: Information Booth on promoting environmental awareness and PRAJNA students recital of Sanskrit sloka in reverence to mother Earth.

Event Celebration Details:
The DFW Vikasatarinigini Seva volunteers joined hands with Oak Cliff Earth Day organizers and participated in the event on April 20, 2008. We put up a stall to promote awareness of the environment protection and the service activities of our organization in general. In the stall, we exhibited the information on VT Seva, Prajna, and also messages written by our own Prahaladas and Andals of DFW Prajna center. The City of Dallas Mayor Mr. Tom Leppert graced the event and personally visited our booth. The Oak Cliff Earth Day organizers had given us an opportunity to share our message with the general public, and our children had recited

One of the students further explained the meaning and essence of the slokam emphasizing on Realizing the value of mother Earth and Responding to her and how our Vedic tradition salutes to Mother Earth. The Earth is mother of all irrespective of nationality, race, religion and any other discrimination. Animals and Plants are also the children of mother earth. When we wake up in the morning, we realize the essence of loving and caring for mother earth. We then respond, by practicing it through out the day. We live in harmony with other beings on Earth by celebrating and protecting her.




Cancer Awareness Day

Event On: Sunday, Feb 3, 2008 from 10.00 AM to 12:00 PM CST
Event Details: Walk on the trails of the park.
Venue: Mary Heads Carter Park, 2320 Heads Lane, Carrollton, TX 75006
Guest Speakers: Mr. Terry Simons, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem, City of Carrollton and Dr. Sridevi Juvvadi, Oncologist from DFW.

Event Celebration Details:
The Cancer Awareness and Prevention Walkathon was inaugurated by Mr. Terry Simons, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem from the City of Carrollton.

Dr. Sridevi Juvvadi, Oncologist from DFW area was the guest speaker on the occasion and she educated the audience on the most prevalent Cancer types and ways to prevent Cancer.

We had about 75 participants in the walk. The literature obtained from the American Cancer Society was distributed to the participants.
We also had the local CBS TV affiliate Channel 11 (KTVT) cover the event and it was broadcasted during the local news at 5:30 PM CST on Sunday, Feb 3rd 2008.




PRAJNA Students with HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji

JET DFW has organized PRAJNA Meet on Oct 26 2007. The students of PRAJNA class had a great opportunity to present what they have learnt in the presence of HH Sri Swamiji. HH Sri Swamiji interacted with students very closely. As part of PRAJNA Meet, students recited slo:ka:s, explained the meaning and essence of them, and shared stories from ithiha:sa:s and pura:na:s that they learnt in the PRAJNA classes. The program started with all the students reciting Rishi Manthram, Sa:nthi Mantram and Guru Pra:rthana.

HH Sri Swamiji taught the following slo:ka to the children and they all joined in chorus. Look at the video by clicking on -

Sri Swamiji mentioned that children should use their tongue like a Cuckoo and not like a Crow. Swamiji mentioned that world likes Cuckoo’s melodious voice and rejects the cacophonous voice of a Crow. When Swamiji asked the children whether they want to be like a Cuckoo or a Crow, all the children unanimously selected Cuckoo. The program concluded with Sa:nthi Manthram and Swamiji’s Managala:sa:sanams & certificates of participation to all the students.

The Prajna students recited Rishi Manthram, Sa:nthi Mantram and Guru Pra:rthana at the inception of Sri Lakshmi Narayana Pooja on Oct 28, 2007 in the presence of 400 devotees of Dallas Fort Worth area.
