When to celebrate Sri Jayanthi (or) Sri Krishna:shtami ?
=From the excerpts of Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji=
KRISHNASHTAMI OR " SRI JAYANTHI " AS SRI VAISHNAVITES CALL IT, SHOULD BE CELEBRATED,
ON THE DAY WHEN THE SUN STAYS IN SIMHA RASI (LEO) AND ON 8TH
LUNAR DAY (ASHTAMI THITTHI ) OF WANING MOON WITH ROHINI STAR .
IT SHOULD BE WITHOUT ANY POLLUTION.
POLLUTION ( VIDDHA ) MEANS, LACK OF SUFFICIENCY OF THAT PARTICULAR STAR OR THITTHI ENJOINING WITH THE PREVIOUS ONE
AT THE TIME OF SUN RISE.
OUT OF BOTH THITHHI AND STAR, WHICHEVER REMAINS LONGER WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED FOR
CELEBRATING THE FUNCTION. IF THAT REMAINS TO THE MORNING
SUNRISE THAT IS ENOUGH. THAT DAY CAN BE TAKEN "PURE" FOR PERFORMING THE
FUNCTION.
KRISHNA'S JANMA SLOKA SAYS:
" SIMHA RA:SOW ASITHE: PAKSHE:
RO:HINYA:M ASHTAMI: THITTHOW |
CHARAMA:RTTHA PRADA:THA:RAM
KRUSHNAM VANDE: JAGADGURUM| |"

So, this year 2009 Sri Jayanthi is celebrated on Saturday Sep 12th.
Here is Sri Krishna A:ra:dhana Procedure
NEWS
Birth day celebrations of Lord Sri krishna will be conducted at Sriramnagar,
JIVA Campus in Samshabad, Hyderabad. This is also called as Sri Jayanthi in the
traditional parlance. As per the scriptures, all the Vedic followers celebrate
this occasion on the 8th day (Ashtami) of the waning moon in the month of Leo
(simha raase asithe pakshe ) when there is Rohini star. However, every year this
star may come a little before or after Ashtami, if not on the same day. If it
comes after 8th day, then that day on which there is Rohini star, will be
considered for celebration of His birthday.
This year, the month of Leo started on 17th August. In the Leo month, 8th day of
the waning moon falls on 12th of September. ( Of course, Rohini star came on
11th itself ) . The celebrations start with cultural programmes at 4 PM. In
addition to a devotional concert for one hour, JIVA Gurukulam Vedic students and
Netravidayalaya College Visually challenged students are going to perform a
short wonderful skit on the naughty deeds of Lord Sri Krishna and also some nice
cultural items will be presented.
It is usually an experience every year to see rain during Lord's Birth ! ( as we
know this from His story) Many Prasadams will be prepared and offered to Lord
Krishna. Children, youth and elders too participate in the competition of
striking the pot filled with butter. Let us all celebrate this auspicious time
in all our homes along with all our Bhagavad Bandhus. Let us join and enjoy this
celebration at Sriramnagar, Samshabad where HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji is
gracing the devotees.
Jai Srimannarayana !
